Well done Steve. What was the competition like?. I ve just been putting the stuff I d robbed off the roadster to build the off-roader back on to it as Dalby is now before my Screwfix heat. They ve had to cancel Chester and move me to the Shropshire event. Are we all going to have to have two carts, one for off road and one for tarmac, or is just putting bigger wheels on going to cut the mustard. My garage is a bit crowded at the moment with both my sons and my motor bikes hibernating for the summer and two carties taking up the rest of the space. I was hoping to dismantle my screw fix effort once the comp was over and concentrate on building a roadster to give you lot a real run for your money but I quite like the idea of off roading. I just dont know, will have to see how we get in at Dalby.I ve made one or two small improvements to the cart I ran at Border Bogies a bit of aerodynamics and some wheel fairings. Looking forward to both events!

Hi Doug, just downloaded this via photobucket its a bit of a drag but seems to work. Oh and I dont want the rest of you giving me a hard time about the quality of the build. I only had two days and a budget of a few pennies and anyway ... it goes like stuff off[ a stick. Whats not to like !

looks like a good job you have dont there it may bounce a bit on the bumps make shure your well padded . we got there and they said they had 6 carts enterd but only 3 turned up and also the one they had in the video so my sons enterd to run in c12 and the others had multy drivers to anmd a jouinor cart class . all did very well and was good to see hill seemed very steep to walk up but being gass and a bit bumpy the carts didnt run to fast and with the rain in the mornign the course got a bit slippy but after lunch it dryed up and every run we did got faster fastest time of c12 was 26.99 and the next competitor was around 32.6 so quite close

That looks the business. Those springs are a good idea, as Steve has advised me I,m just relying on plenty of padding!. Loving the skewers you,ve fitted to the front,

Much as i would love to take a buggie down the bmx track . if the glous event is anything to go by if you have a look at the very first second of ( andys ) vid you get a good view of a large open grass area where they can mark out a course with a lot of small cones . This is the vid from the glous event at the weekend you can see the bmx track in the bakground www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT8V1hqeqy8

Oh oh............... looks like I,m stuffed. I m not bothered about the springs (Im going to dress like the Michelin Man) but I think it may need a bit more bracketry and bracing if its going to get to the bottom in one piece and that last right hand bend at the bottom looks a bit fierce ,doesnt it Andy ? Sorry just read Steves post so can shed several layers of clothing safely/

Steve how did you get on with ground clearance and Tyres ?

Post by stevec12 on Aug 8, 2011 18:53:08 GMT
i ran 16" at cairngorm so to give me an extra 50mm i made up some new disk wheels that took the 20"( 406 rim )and put some knobbly tyres and another 10mm spacer under the wishbones to give me 100mm ride hight at the front without mucking about with the front hubs, uprights and brakes .
on the back to save time and cost of making more 20" wheels i used the 16" and lowerd the rear arms by 60mm.. but id did make it look funny running the small wheels on the rear it was a bit bumpy and i left the ground sevral times better suspension would help how are you getting on with your build ?

Runfree needs quite a bit done to get enough ground clearance especially at the front end as the steering push rods bottom out on the floor if I lower the wishbones much. Only got 1" clearance to find so should manage and the rear end will be OK with a couple of new mounting points for the rear suspension. The roll cage and seat needs to be changed otherwise my neck will get stuffed as my helmet bangs off the cage which is what happened at Dalby when I went airborne at the speed bump. ;D The long overhang on the nose is a bit problematic and needs the floor lifting a bit to produce a sledge effect otherwise it will become a turf lifter. Just hope the course justifies the distance traveled and I just bless the Tax man for his welcome tax rebate when I got back from our weeks holiday. The sad thing is if I had known earlier it was coming I would have been able to enter Dalby Forest.

Andy:- A Brown envelope from Mr.Taxman puts anyone in a cold sweat and up to now they have not been on my Christmas list but a Brown envelope containing a very nice letter and a cheque for £300 made my day! Unfortunately Dalby is definitely out now as I am scheduled to be driving the Alford train all weekend. Toot, Toooot. Thanks though for being so obliging.
