Hi back, Looked at trikes myself and they do look fun. I don't think they should race WITH the bikes, but should have their own category. Problem I could see is getting their own set of rules, getting enough people into it to make a new category and getting organisers to let you race. All the above can be sorted though. Some organisers would be happy to let you run a trike e.g. Border Bogies, I THINK ! Don't quote me on this Where as some others would def NOT. If I was you, I would contact race organisers and see would let you and who wouldn't. Personally I think having trike races sounds great , All the best and let us know how you get on with this, Dan

I noticed Border Bogies allow 3 wheelers (as a soapbox)

All events have their own rules. Some allow three wheelers, and some don't. Some have been known to let them run as a "special case" and not eligible for prizes. I think they should be a separate class of vehicle, and I did even think about drafting a set of rules too, but it's not quite as straightforward as you might think. Trikes have some stability issues that are very different from their 2 and 4 wheeled cousins, and there are quite a lot of other factors that need to be considered, i.e; - 1 or 2 wheels at the front?
- Front or rear wheel steering?
- Driver seated, supine or prone?
- Fairings allowed (and hence roll bars and harness required too?
- What wheelbase and track required for reasonable stability?
Basically, it comes down to whether or not you consider a trike as being a 3 wheeled bike or a 3 wheeled cartie. There are at least 4 different sub-classes of trike, and possibly more. Do we know anyone who is competent to risk assess trike racing?

I've done quite a bit of trike racing. I went to a race at Monza in 2011 where some of the faster guys were reaching speeds of over 50mph on trikes. I now have about 40,000 miles of trike expirience including a few thousand downhill runs and have reached a max speed of 72mph. Stability depends on various factors such as the track width, wheelbase, height of COG from ground, how close the COG is to the axle with two wheels.

Also; in the rules it doesn't state that the bike should have 2 wheels. Which rules are you looking at?
