I was aiming for something more sleek ! my sons are the stylists on this project , they are asking me " can you make it look like am EVO 9 or a Ferrari?" maybe looking like a 50s hotrod More pics added here : woodysgarage.spaces.live.com/please let me know if the link works !

Sleek is not necessarily the most aerodynamic shape for a cartie that has a 'maximum' speed below 100mph. The size limitations set by the build criteria also present a challenge to accommodate an adult within an aerodynamically efficient and sleek body. The links work fine.

Number 30 had a good turn of speed at Cadwell Park and certainly looks the part but I think the team would probably agree there is a lot of design changes needed to get the speed up to anything like 80 - 100mph. In no way am I being critical but to achieve high speeds and maintain good driving characteristics cartie designs are going to have to be developed with some outside the box thinking. You only have to pick up on the 'Great weight debate' to realise we are all on a learning curve and learn by our mistakes and those made by others.

Hi woody you seem to be getting on with the cartie and it certainly looks strong. I think I would feel a bit nervous with her coming alongside at 70mph! ;D Like the transparent steering wheel.

I know that gravity Karts can reach good speeds , BUT if i get up to 70mph i think i will need pampers !! and ,... the steering wheel is not invisible , it a virtual imaginary steering ! the steering is the next job on my list , i have sorted out Ackerman and think i now know how to do it , proof is in the pudding as they say , I am getting impatient to get out and have a go now do a bit of testing

Looks good although I'm not sure that using string as a track rod would pass scrutineering.

Ok , i have taken on-board the "string" problem , well , string is the traditional form of steering, i personaly have used string for 40 years LOL I have now added track-rods (stainless steel !) and i now have working steering !!!! at this rate i will be testing next weekend ( if i get at least one brake working) Attachments:

Perhaps you meant "(If I can get the other brake working) I will be testing next weekend."
If not you might be in hospital over the weekend if you go testing with one brake!

Well if i can get one of the rear brakes to work then i will do some limited testing , gentle slope ,plenty of run-off etc , of course i would like two and this is the aim , i would actually like working brakes on the front as well but these can be added as i go if the rears work ok at the moment i am on the lookout for longer brake cables or i am thinking of making a brake pedal with a rod linkage to shorter cables .

Tandem cables are 3m+, which is about as long as you'll get. Loads available for not very much on ebay. Just search for "tandem cables".
I usually get the cable sleeves from my friendly local bike shop, where the bloke just cuts them to the length from a great long roll he has.

Our jury is still out regarding fitting brakes on the front wheels, because getting and maintaining the brake set up during racing is problamatic. Having looked at numerous videos where carties lock up a front wheel and do a lopsided tail lift we decided to just run with rear wheel disc brakes.

Hi Woody, looking forward to seeing her sitting on her wheels. I'm afraid I just keep opening the shed door and looking rather than doing anything constructive so you are doing well in my book. I think the prospect of the new Sidehack class has distracted me and getting new team members prepared to be the monkey is proving to be harder than building a cartie!
