Mark
I suggest you re-read the Bandits first e-mail:
Does this sound like he wants to do this as safely as possible?
And again you are not reading our messages properly. We do not want to ban people from riding outside of organised events. The UKGSA is advising against it for obvious reasons, and we are all saying that if you do, do it respectfully and SAFELY.
As for shunning people we defiantly do not want to do that. 1. It makes us seem, how you say, elitist and prevent growth in the sport. 2. It makes it more likely that they will go off and ride unsafely as the do not feel welcome at our events. 3. Despite doing this these people are our friends, and we’d like to keep it that way.
Mark this includes you! You have constantly posted controversial messages and points of view. We will not shun you. You have great energy and that is fantastic for the sport. We want you with us. Please, come along to SSSprint and UKGSA events, the AGM in January as you did in the summer and Dlby in April, and be a part. See how we do things and give us your points of view, we will respect yours if you respect ours. Also remember that you are very new to the sport and have only been to one event, take some time to observe and learn, see what we are doing right as well as what you think we are doing wrong.

Thanks for the support Joel!
How about coming to Manchester to support Gravity Sports and make sure the public know how to and where to go riding, also let them know the problems we have finding places to ride too? Many people attend these events and maybe we can find someone with the contacts for more locations, as well as expanding the rider base? The stand is opposite the "Streetfighters Magazine" stand and there is a possible article in the making, with the right support!
As for Casper's post .....although my riding is spasmodic to say the least, I am doing something, possibly with a greater potential than anything done before, so do your homework bud!
Merry Xmas all, ride safe!

Hia Mark
I would love to come up to Manchester to do the show, but there are two reasons, yes, reasons, not excuses, I can't.
1. I start an new job on the 6th, I don't think they would be too impressed if I asked for the next few days off. 2. I live in Littlehampton, in case you dont know, that is on the South Coast, near Brighton. Manchester is a f**k of a long way when you don't have a car or any money.
I hope the show is a huge success. My personal thought is that you big up SSSprint there. They have the facilities to get new people into the sport.
Also keep us informed about your proect. Remember, we can help with things like insurance and other supplies if we know is happening.
See ya soon

Mark, are you hinting that you're working on something to rival the old Aviemore World Cup.....????
I know it's the wrong forum but I see you're online so i'll ask anyway.......is the Manchester gig only over the weekend? I could fit a day in Tues-Thurs 'cause i'm on the road and could sort something out......unfortunately weekends are out ( hard enough to get away for races etc when I only get home weekends!!!!!)

Merry Xmas all, ride safe! Calm down Mark, Luke Casper has more experience of what can go wrong at a race or session than anybody in fact when you've either left compound fractured bone impaled in the track (me at Brands) or been in a German head scanner after a close shave with a Brazilian (Luke) then you get to talk the talk. I for one am well glad the sports got away from that 90's balls to the wall triple X kind of groove that permeated most events in those days. Dont want to see it back, too many scars and too many bad memories, i'm quite happy to be nanny'd on and off the track by people who care about the riders and the sport. PS Luke me old fruit, did Epic the other day, some bad vibes flowing around the place, closure in the pipeline i think.

Mark with regard to your "Nanny state comment" i dont see anything wrong with that, If it stops newcomers to the sport (with respect, like yourself) going out and killing themselves by hurtling down the M62 on a a luge/skate etc then its a good thing. All this Gung Ho Mr Pepsi Max stuff is all very well and good but i dont want my mum to have to wipe the dribble off my chin for the rest of my days!

Sounds like a gas to me... Where do I sign up? haha!
This is pretty similar to what we do, except we keep it within our crew. Someone mentioned Calky having his/her leg amputated? What's the story with that?
Riding without saftey regs, bails, marshalls etc can be a breath of fresh air tbh, because you don't have people saying "right... You, you and you ride now and then a few others afterwards" etc etc. Having said that, we've never been to an organised event, for two main reasons:
1) You have to drive bloody miles for a single run (in the case of Gursten... Two corners!!!!!) 2) You have to pay money to enter on top of travel expenses.
Don't get me wrong, we'd love to enter an event/comp (we actually made the trek for Chamrousse 2004, finding out, when we got there, that it was cancelled, but luged our butts off anyway), but I think we're having more fun (in the UK at least) riding for fun and filming etc. Driving round, finding a spot, bailing out and lugeing it... You can't go wrong.

Bazil I have spoken with you guys a few times and your refusal to wear the necessary safety equipment and reckless attitude to riding worries me. You couldn't be more wrong! Just look at our Santa's Buttboard Bash last week. Yes we didn't have bales, but due to the course we didn't need any. We did have a marshall on the end of a radio to keep the course clear. And we ran loads of runs (probably 20+ over the two days) without any "right, you go first, then..." Why, because there were only a few of us and we were well organised. While riding there were several cars that came up the hills, if we didn't have a marshall it is very probable that at least one of us would have been seriously injured. First, so far as I remember you guys drive most of the way across Wales to ride some hills, whats the difference??? Second, what are you on about "single run" At gurston we usually have a minimum of 6 runs, usually it is more like 10. If you read the Bandits message it is he that is suggesting a single run. Finally, 2 corners, yes. Have you ridden them? No! They are very technical corners and require a good deal of skill to get round at speed. Chamrousse was on this year, I didn't go, but Ben, Len, Tristen, Tom and K all did (along with about 300 other people), and had a blast. I suggest that you check the dates events are on before turning up! Wise up guys, you are bad for this sport and are gonna get yourselvs seriously hurt. Joel

Joel...
*SIGH*
We DON'T have a reckless attitude to "riding", we're VERY safe when it comes to cars. We've started wearing helmets because, well, why not?
We've never had a single car incident, we've had two near misses (at low speed), but nothing to really shit ourselves up about because we always go with at least two people spotting for cars. The two times there were near misses were one where I mistook a "stop" for a "go" sign from a friend spotting for cars and other was when we were just cruising (at very low speeds (about 20mph)) down a run that was covered in mud, twigs and rocks etc and a car came up the road, there was plenty of time for us to get out the way, so it wasn't really a near miss. We also have a car riding behind us to make sure no cars come from behind without us knowing about it.
Anyway, our dvd is NOT a home video, I'm quite offended that you said that. Some of the old footage does look bodge, but that's because it's shot on a crap single ccd camera. Anyway... Technical or not, there are 100000 other runs around the UK with better corners than Gursten that are perfectly safe to ride, so the prospect of paying £40 and travel costs to ride two corners seems pretty silly to me... Maybe we'll do it one day, just for the shits and giggles.
Look, Joel, we (the SCC) can all totally understand where you're coming from. But I think you've got the impression that we just throw ourselves down hills without a moments thought to what could be coming up hill. That couldn't be further from the truth!
We went to Chamrousse on the 27th of March... This was the date advertised on the SSSprint mailing list. The cancellation notice was also posted on the same mailing list, therefore, we didn't get the wrong date... Was there more than one event possibly?
I'll thank you kindly to re-assess your impression of us.
Bazil
P.S. Luge CAN still be safe without hay bails and all the overly protective safety measures... May I please point out that having insurance doesn't change the likelyhood of you getting splatted by a car....... Yes yes, I know it's for cover blah blah blah.

Look "BRAZIL" i've seen your actitives on your website and frankly i see them as reckless and irrsponcible! I have been buttboarding for 4 years now and have now "wised-up" and have gone to SSSprint and UKGSA races and have learnt alot, I never wore leathers or a helmet even when i was goin down Sheslsey walsh at over 45mph but now having gone to these events have learnt that i needed to change and i have i now have full leathers and a helmet. and what are you talking about you can luge without safty measures!!!! if i did'nt wear my helmet at the Santa's Buttboarding Bash i would of seriosly f**ked myself up when i went head first into the ditch or when i cartwheeled off my board and smacked my head on the floor?! we had a marshall who saved our ass a couple of times down hill farm we would of gone clean under a couple of cars!! A year ago i was suck in high school dreaming about doing buttboarding competivly but finding dead end sites like gravity-sports.co.uk and buttboarding.com (which is now wking ) and stumpled across this site added Joel to my messenger and now a year later i can say that these past 6 months have been my best of my life with meeting loads of new friends and just generally having a great time with what i love doing. I don't want the image of gravity sports to go down the pan along with my hopes of being in a respectable club just because of some stupid kids who don't care about safety measurese. Paying for events such as the white air means that i'm funding and putting back into my sport i paid £50 for the best weekend of my life i got to race along side people like pete elliot who i only ever read his results on hot heels and saw him in the DVD! although i came 4th (watch out joel dez and pete ) i loved it there was no worries of cars or other potentel hazards as i have full confidence in the UKGSA setting up a proper and profesnel event. I STICK BY JOEL ON WHAT HE SAID ABOUT YOUr RECKLESSMENT ;D ;D HE HAS EXPERIANCE YOU DON'T i am still learning we are all still learning about the delicatness of putting events together. don't tarnise this clubs image and reputation! as we have had nothing but good reports from people. Will 1) It's BAZIL and NOT!!! BRAZIL!!!! 2) I'll direct you back to my post saying that we DO have saftey measures, WE DO keep people posted for cars, WE DO (now) wear helmets and are considering leathers (as we can probably go faster in them), WE ONLY luge on roads that have a certain degree of saftey even without having people stopping cars. READ MY POST!!! WE ARE NOT WRECKLESS! The footage you see on our website is footage taken from roads/paths that have been fully checked out and safe to "ride" on. WE ARE IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH, NOR MENTION IN OUR DVD/WEBSITE, UKGSA OR SSSPRINT SO HOW CAN WE TARNISH YOUR ADMIRABLE REPUTATION!?!?!?!?! It's as simple as this: We are safe! I've come off plenty of times at Halfway (where we got 73mph) and, due to the design of our boards, it's very hard to do anything more than bail off sideways and get friction burns. About 3 years ago, one of our guys had a serious accident, but that was because he went down a hill HEAD FIRST! We were totally against this, but he did it anyway, he learnt the lesson. Thankfully he made a full recovery. Please get it into your head, WE THINK ABOUT SAFETY (and practice) FIRST!!!Bazil - www.sccstreetluge.co.uk

That's really odd because we received multiple emails about the event being cancelled due to the authorities refusal to allow the road to be used. Apparently some people had gone down there without permission and sthingyed themselves... Would have been good to race other people, but we still had a hell of a time finding spots around France... NICE switchback roads down the mountains, got some beautiful footage! When's the next event being held there? We're going back to France for easter. Bazil
