You can get a fully interactive one by clicking on the "link" button at the top right corner of maps.google.co.uk.
I suspect this is what you're after - copy everything in the code block below and paste it into the page;
<iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Unknown+road&daddr=Unknown+road&hl=en&geocode=FfSUMgMd4L_i_w%3BFaObMgMd6a7i_w&sll=53.647334,-1.916857&sspn=0.027117,0.09244&vpsrc=6&mra=me&mrsp=1,0&sz=14&ie=UTF8&t=p&ll=53.647334,-1.916857&spn=0.008903,0.018239&z=15&output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=embed&saddr=Unknown+road&daddr=Unknown+road&hl=en&geocode=FfSUMgMd4L_i_w%3BFaObMgMd6a7i_w&sll=53.647334,-1.916857&sspn=0.027117,0.09244&vpsrc=6&mra=me&mrsp=1,0&sz=14&ie=UTF8&t=p&ll=53.647334,-1.916857&spn=0.008903,0.018239&z=15" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

A few years ago I offered to update the UKGSA web site to make it much easier to keep up to date. In fact - with the agreement of the then UKGSA committee I even did the work and had it working, but couldn't get access to the UKGSA server to make the new site live. At the UKGSA AGM earlier this year I understood that someone else was going to take over the web site and to essentially re-do the work I'd already done. This doesn't seem to have happened, and it seems you're still trying to edit what is essentially series of html pages. This has all sorts of problems, with the mains ones being the very steep learning curve to learn how to do it and also the need to change any common content (side blocks etc) on every page. The site I set up uses the Drupal content management system so that it can be updated from anywhere by anyone with the necessary permissions using nothing more complicated than a web browser. Updating the site is via a simple online rich text editor and is no harder than making a posting on this forum. It can be integrated with other sites to (e.g.) automatically gather news from other web sites, recent forum postings, etc, without any work by the web site admins at all. This is how we do the Scottish Carties web site, Cairngorm Soapbox, etc. It can also automatically push stories and updates out to other sites, facebook, twitter, etc. There are a whole host of other neat things that come as standard - check out the event type filter on the event calendar page, for instance. The site I'd set up still exists, and you can see it at ukgsa.treeplant.co.uk/. The theme is currently based on the old UKGSA web site, but updating it to the new look would be trivial. It could easily be brought up to date and made live to replace the existing site. My offer to help with the UKGSA web site still stands and I can set you up with a brand new and easy to update web site within a week and for an absolutely minimal cost. Let me know if you're interested in taking this forward.

thanks a lot steve i will get some time to have a look soon and then will discuss it with the rest of the team
the idea was that some one else was taking it over yes but time and commitments it didn't happen
what we have started to do was only to at least get the content upto date i think i could get it easier to use and update with a bit of time but is that necessary if there is another site ready to run
i think there has been a combination of people getting tide up with it struggle to get approval and lossing contacts
so now anything such as this will be considered
cheers again

How are you editing it? Do you have a copy of the site on your computer which you upload every time you change something? If so, you are always going to be stuck with the "only one person can update the site" problem, which is eventually followed by the "it used to be updated by so-and-so but he doesn't have time/emigrated/has been abucted by aliens/accidentally deleted it" problem.
The point of using a Content Management System is that any of the team can help to keep it up to date, from anywhere, and without any special skills or software. I've set you up with a login on ukgsa.treeplant.co.uk, and can easily add more if you'd like anyone else to have a play with it.
I can help. Seriously. I do this stuff for a living.

I have made a site using the JOOMLA! system which is currently hosted in a subfolder of another site. It needs a LAMP server though and the current server is windows. It's temprely hosted at hpvdb.com/ukgsa

That's a great start Lee. I'm not particularly interested in getting into a debate on the pros and cons different CMS and hosting options, but it just seemed to me that the planned upgrade of the ukgsa.com had stalled and the existing site was proving difficult to manage.
I just thought it'd be worth pointing out that there is a site ready to go right now that could be made live in a few minutes, kept up to date extremely easily and would have only nominal costs to cover hosting (or even free if you'll carry some ads for my web site building sideline).
All that is needed to make ukgsa.treeplant.co.uk live is to update the DNS records for ukgsa.org to point web traffic the new server. It is already aliased there so no links would change and people could still access the site via ukgsa.com. From the user's point of view the transition would be utterly seamless. You could even do that as a temporary measure right now to get ukgsa.com active again until you get your Joomla site finished and the hosting issues resolved.

Any more thoughts on this? Happy to talk about it with you if there are any changes or additions you'd need to the site. It's pretty easy to customise and add features and functionality, and you'd be able to keep ukgsa.org up to date really easily.
Remember - "done" is better than "perfect".

Who is the best person to get in touch with about getting information about Cairngorm Soapbox Extreme put on the front page of UKGSA.org?
