I had thought of building a frame from scratch , but i read somewhere that you have to use a standard commercially available BMX frame , have i got this mixed up ?

I know of no rules saying that you have to use a bmx frame. if I did ,I would ignore them anyway. purpose built frames are the future. eg Brett Philips bike.

I remember reading that somewhere too, although I can't remember when or where.
Have you ever thought of building a sidehack frame?

I am fairly certain that Cadwell's rules specified using a standard BMX frame as the basis of a gravity bike to make the class as accessible as possible. I don't know whether they still have that requirement

there is no rule to say you have to use a stock bmx frame. just checked applehead rules and they don't mention bmx frames. Thank goodness. In my opinion it would limit the development of gravity bikes in the future if you HAD to use a stock BMX frame. bmx frames are a great starting point but don't limit us. we have wheel size, max length and weight etc and that is enough to keep it accessable.

Hi, we did have a rule about using a standard BMX frame in the first years of running at Cadwell just to get people in to the sport by keeping it simple. We scraped that last year as well as no fairings. I would like to see one class like soapbox/sidecars where you can build what you want as long as its safe and race as one class. I don't think we need to have different classes like there used to be. With the extra events this year hopefully the sport will grow as it is a great entry level into gravity sports.
