I came across a video file from Turtling in Switerzland a few years ago (unfortunately the colour seems to have gone mad when I unloaded it to Youtube but it gives a feel for it): www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQH8Q5UzzU4Would be great to get them out at Aviemore...

not sure which part of the road is going to be used for the race but i seem to remember the road being allmost flat for the last half mile at least. the top saction is steep so it aint all bad . ;D
also , i spoke to a few guys that rode it in 2007 and they said the surface had gone to shit , but that was from a Stand up point of view.
Not sure how much fun it would be on a Turtle.

Not sure how much fun it would be on a Turtle. The plan is to use the same course as the luge. The flat section is part of the fun - you've got to slow down to take the first hairpin, but not so much that you don't make it to the second one. Well made/driven carts should manage it without any problem. The surface is just chippings rolled into tar. It's perfectly OK for soapbox (or will be when a few potholes are filled in). I couldn't really comment about its suitability for anything else.

Any more thoughts on letting turtles in?

Yay! Thanks for posting the COASH footage Graeme, classic stuff. That was a fantastic run for Turtles, to the extent I'm tempted to go back there just with Turtles.
Turtles in a Soap Box race? No-brainer. They're closer to soap boxes than luge or skateboard any day. Turtles are just a go-kart without an engine. Surely it would be a welcome boost to your numbers too? More entries mean more entry fees paid mean the event is more financially feasible.

We're pretty limited in what we can do as we've only got the road for 20 minutes every hour. In the long term I hope we'll be able to expand the event to include other disciplines, but at the moment I don't see how we can do that without compromising the main focus of the event.
The door is not completely shut, but to be honest it looks unlikely for this year. However, if you don't mind signing up quite late once we know what the soapbox entries are then there is a possibility. Are you going to be at Cadwell next month? If so, perhaps we could have a chat about it then.

This Turtle thing! they look good fun and a good transition between soapbox and luge. But I have one question! where do I get one? Ive tired the web site, mailed them and even got a friend in France to try phoning the number, but no luck. is there a contact in the UK ? will anyone have one at a UK event for me to try. Help! thanks Barry. PS thanks for the contact for the soapboxes we are selling, we have interest through this web site.

It's been a long and, at times, very frustrating wait while we made sure we had everything in place, but we're now ready and will be putting the entry forms online on Monday 4th May 2009. We'll also be emailing them directly to those who have registered with our registration mailing list at some point this weekend. Go to soapboxracing.co.uk for further details and to download the rules and entry forms.
