Well we tested most of what Greenspeed reckons is the go and found it to mostly be a pile of crap. Not happy they would put such a biased point of view out there. They had the Scorcher tyres made and in every test we put them thru the Scorcher lost if we could get them on a rim. Some of them are to big. Everybody in my state where I live my customers and competitors across Australia are all using Primo Comets. They are king of the hill for relatively hi-speed running on relatively straight tracks and big wide open bends.............trikes

Hi trikes - nice to see you back. I'd never heard of primo comets but they look interesting and might be good for carties too. I'm keen to try out the Maxxis Miracle, especially as you can crank 'em up to 110psi.

Hi CC I've just started posting in your site and yes it's nice to be back. I dropped out for a while to let the spammer get it out of their system. Umm the Maxxis Miracle. Not familiar with that model. A lot of us have tried out a few others of the Maxxis tyres but they are the heaviest tyre on the market and the carts and gravity bikes acceleration times and speed were recorded as the slowest. We even machined some of them to lighten them up. That helped some and they were at least competitive. But the 'Primo and old favourites Chen Shin reign is not yet over'. I use the Primo Comet Champs for racing. But you need the correct rims made just for those tyres by Velocity. All up weight of a Velocity Aeroheat or Aerohead 16 x 1 or 20 x 1 is a quarter of the weight of the lightest wheel assembly out there. Velocity make some real tough rims and awsome quality hubs that work real well on Billycarts.

So we did a heap of tyre testing today with two sizes in the Animal ASM range 2.10 and 1.95. Took two bikes to the test track So we started with the 2.10 ASM front/ rear on my chrome bike and the results after the first three runs left us scratching our heads. Straightline speeds were way down. Like 18kmh down. So i went looking for a problem. Found a ball had cracked in half in the rear hub. So dropped the offender out, threw it in the river, put it back together and tried again. Speeds around 53 - 54 kmh. Still well down on the 60.9 I had done a few weeks back. So I ran the Chopper with it's years old Chen Shin 1.75'. Darn thing was faster than the Animals. Soooo I swapped front wheels and headed up the top again. You beauty, I found 2.3kmh in the Huffy Chopper taking it to 56.3 and the chrome bike took off like a lizard heading for the bar. 61.3kmh. So next was the slalom. The Huffy is a little longer in the wheelbase than the chrome bike so it was lazy to change direction but it still went it's best with 2.10 ASM up front. The chrome bike was really slippery with that old Chen Shin on the front. So I did a swap and put that wheel to the back with a Animal 1.95 on the front. Beautiful mate! These ASM tyres wouldn't slip / slide for me or any of the guys that tried them. I was able to go thru the slalom like a man posessed with this set up. So in finishing I'd have to give the Animal ASM tyres the thumbs up but only in combination with a medium weighted tyre (the heavier tyre on the rear was the way to go today). Together they have lots of grip and this yields huge amounts of confidence. But their straight line running is woeful. Matched up with the old 1.75 Chen Shins the speeds were well up on anything else I've tested. This combination was faster than a Hookworm combination by over 5kmh (straightline) and it is possible to find the limit for the Hookworms in the Slalom. The Schwarble Kojaks and Stelvios are right up there in a straightline but thats it. In the slalom they are very slip slidy and prone to punctures. If I had to go to Brazil tomorrow for the World Speed Titles I'd be going on a 195 ASM up front with a Chen Shin 1.75 out back. This set up would work well at Bathurst too...trikes
