after working at halfords for 6 months have finally gave in and am putting together a gravity bike, it was gonna get scraped at it was sctrached on the top and has been in our "scrap" heap for few weeks, having a clear up and was going to get put into the skip so i brought it, needed few more parts like handlebars brake cables etc, but all in all has cost £20 BARGIN!!! its one of the shitty BMX's we do, although it is an aluminuim frame, it has a disc brake on it. WHO HAS A DISC BRAKE ON A BMX?! so it is aimed and the chavy/wannabe market, even so the disc brake caliper did'nt work, so got another one off another pretty poor bike we do. well be interesting to see how it goes, bearing in mind have'nt been on a bike in about 4 years! dnt think its gonna be much comp agaist the scots....... also just wondering what sort of weight should i be aiming for on the bike? will

It looks like you would get a better rake angle if you flipped the frame over?

one cheek either side of the wheel it does look much lower and a bit longer too, must be heading in the right direction. i got the same problem, where to put the braces for the seat. i think a piece of 4x1 to mock it up and get comfortable should give me a good idea of where it needs to be, now if i could just get my hands on one of those new repo chopper seats.........

Flipped frames (as it's known as) were popular about 5 years ago, but THEY DID NOT WORK. You will find out when you take it at speed and then try to turn, they are seriously twitchy and unstable. Ian rides a standard bmx frame, with a seat post and saddle. It is not low, but it corners really well and he kicked the Scotts arses at Scammo. Try it flipped for a bit, but don't make it irreversable, coz ur gonna want to put it back to normal again pretty quickly. Joel P.S. More info: www.doctordanger.com/projects/GravityBikes.HTM (scroll to the very bottom of the bage for their thoughts on flipping frame)

this is great news! will be good to see more than just three or four entries in g-bike. will, in response to your ballast question i would suggest something near maximum for a track like dalby and little or none for scammo as ian proved at the last round. scammonden suits big balls and handling over straight line speed. john.

So Will have u ridden the bike flipped and not flipped? I have and Joel is right. Sounds like u guys are on a roll with a growing g-bike class. Well done. Here in Tassie we are in our infancy and at the race meets we have to 'import' g-bikers from the north island to make up the numbers. John it was Wills bike that I saw flipped.........trikes

its just been out on its maiden voyage and i did'nt fall off wehey!
wen down a very steep road round the back of my house and was just wondering, is it normal not only to get the front disc smoking but also the entire cliper/mech thing heavyly smoking too? and is it a sign that the kit might not be up to it?

I used to smoke quite heavily - Nicotine patches did the trick for me. Slap a couple on that disk of yours, than go try that hill again. (Should stop all that coughing too... eventually).
Ride hard, stay safe.

Hey Will probably had a bit of oily contaminant on the disc. Give the disc and the the pads a wipe down with acetone or thinner. Oh and use a clean rag or towel once toss it grab another repeat cleaning process..........trikes ps sounds almost sexual
