With the weight of the rider, leathers, boots clothes and underpants etc which for me for me is around the 95-100kg
how much does it matter about the weight of the luge including trucks wheels bearings etc
This has been playing on my mind as new luge is weighing abt 24kg, and old one was 11kg so its more than double. but will be saving weight by no longer riding with the "Lordi Boots" that weighed abt 9kg!

Will, According to the IGSA rules: WEIGHT : The complete luge must not exceed 25kg (55.6lbs). A 1kg allowance will be given for variances in the accuracy of scales.Download the complete construction specifications here: www.gravity-sports.com/rulebooks/2006_igsa_rulebook_final.pdfSo, according to the rule book, your luge is legal to race (Just!). You can carry ballast on the luge if you wish, so long as the total weight of luge plus ballast does not exceed the 25kg limit. As far as I am aware, there are no rules governing how heavy the rider is allowed to be (Lucky for some pie-eaters!... ). Looks like the composite-sandwich idea could shave some weight off your luge, as it will be stronger and lighter. Your new heavy luge will ride like a limo, slow off the line but with a high top end, and slowing down will be like stopping a train. Great for long courses with non-technical bends (Like Dalby then). Ride hard, stay safe. Tom W.

Hi Windy, To post a pic, you need to store the image elsewhere on the net, and then link its location in your message. You can post your pics for free at: groups.msn.com/UKGravityPhotoArchive. Post your pic in the archive, then right click on your image and copy the URL - these can be several lines long, so make sure you scroll down and get it all. There are several other free image upload sites around on the net, such as : imageshack.us/ so just browse around and take your choice, though obviously it would be cool if you could post it in the gravity photo archive as well. Then to post the image here, open up an new message box, and then click the "Insert image" button above. Then paste the link to your image inbetween the two sets of brackets - like this : pasteyourlinkhere[/img ]. When you post the message, that line of brackets and text will appear as an image. Note : If you are linking to the gravity photo archive, you will need to edit your link slightly, by deleting all the numbers off the end off the link, until it ends in....xxxx.img. Hope this helps! Ride hard, stay safe. Tom W.

Aaaah - I think its somethng to do with dynamic content - dynamic links are disallowed or something like that (Question marks, asterisks, exclamation marks etc... are illigal characters). We used to be able to link photos here from the MSN site, but no longer - Webmaster? Is this something to do with the security settings on this message board? Or have they changed something at the MSN end?
Windy - In the meantime, just post the page links here to the photos instead - Its a very good looking luge you have made there!
Ride hard, stay safe.

Nothin to do with the board i'm afraid, or the characters u mention, they are perfectly allowed in web links. It's to do with the MSN Groups security. they block external sites from accessing files on their server. this means u have to visit their site to look at the pictures stored there, and at the same time look at adverts. You used to be able to remove some of the code from the link and make it work Tom W found this out for us), but they have changed their systems so you can't do this any more. www.photobucket.com do allow you to link to files stored on their server, so may be a better option. What is the width of the luge? It looks to be wider than the Rogers width, which is about 16".
How did you bend the tubes? Did you use a manual hand-operated tubing bender, or a CNC mandrel tubing bender like what the Rogers Bros use?
Also, did you use a jig in order to align the tubes together before welding, and if so, how did you go about making that jig and using it?
Got me thinking on how to start building my own Rogers pegless!

Its slightly wider at 18.5 inches, just to keep my shoulders safe, it's hand bent to a pattern transfered to a flat piece of 1/2 inch plywood with pegs in it, probably a mistake as when things were clamped up and welded the distortion moved the wood so i ended up with a 1/2 inch difference in the sides when you mesure it, conversly it still works out right when you check the alignment of the trucks so there we go! its hand made in the garage, mind it does seem to ride fine. heres a shot of it so far...........
