Being the technical Officer for the Southern Tasmania Billycart Group for the last ten years I'm interested when I hear changes have been made. Where can I read the UKGSA 08 gravity bike specifications please?

Hi Trikes, We run according to the IGSA technical specs, which can be found here: www.gravity-sports.com/rulebooks.htmIn the past, the IGSA has tended to tweak and change the rules and specifications in a seemingly arbitrary, and often controversial manner - without consultation or explanation to the rider community. In some respects I can understand this, as you can never please all the people all the time, but nevertheless I feel that some degree of input IS required from the riders and race organisers - especially concerning rule changes that may affect rider safety. So, for 2008 this is set to change, and Marcus (IGSA President) is now keen to make the rule change process more inclusive, and he will include some form of rider-vote system for future rule changes. Look out for a new IGSA website for 2008, and even an IGSA timing system at the races! Ride hard, Stay safe, GoFast!!! Tom W.

I guess they'll publish the 2008 regs when we get to 2008 I suppose Generally speaking, in the past, any changes that the IGSA make to the rules or regs, get updated on the spot. I don't think they decide that "These are the regs for 2008" publish them and then close the book. It tends to be more of a continually rolling process. With IGSA World Cup events happening all over the world throughout the year, there is no real "Off season" during which the following years rules can be decided. The racing points season runs from Dec to Dec. That said, the basic rules and regs have changed very little over the years. The only significant changes were the introduction of the "Unlimited" streetluge spec in 2003, and the dropping of the DOT helmet rule in 2007. (And the stupid helmet rule was rushed through due to some crazy Californian legal bullsh*t at the time). For 2008 I think we might see some alterations to the racing procedures, in particular some slight changes to the bracket system, and the possible introduction of 5 man heats. (Or so I heard on the grapevine). With regards to G-Bikes, there is currently so little G-Bike participation at IGSA World Cup events that I doubt we will see any significant rule changes in that area. (Apart from our Eastbourne World Cup event here in the UK where we had a good G-Bike turnout from among the UK riders, I only saw 2 other G-Bikes during the whole of the 2007 European racing season abroad). If anything, due to the poor turnout at this seasons' European World-Cup races, If I were a G-Bike rider, I would probably be slightly worried about the continued inclusion of G-Bikes as a World Cup discipline, as it is somewhat ridiculous to be able to name a World G-Bike Champion without having any serious head-to head G-Bike racing for the title. But, thats just my personal perspective as a rider / race organiser, and not necessarily that of the IGSA rulemakers Ride hard, Stay safe, GoFast!!! Tom W.

Tom i think the rule trikes is referring to is in the advert post for Cadwell park stating "commercially available frames only" "all others" (me and chops!) "can run every hour with the soap boxes" it is sad to say but very unlikely that we will drive past some of the best hills in the UK on our way to free ride at a motor racing circuit. john.

Every frame that I see being used is 'commercially available'. Even John and Chops. I'm sure they would knock up another 'frame' if someone asked. These narrow minded person(s) that wrote that prerequisite of commercially available frames only obviously dosen't know that std bmx frames are not built for adult weight and are positively dangerous to ride quickly. Now I know some of you are going to say what about the bmx worlds for example but they are only ridden for very short periods of time and never at the speeds a 'good' G-Bike can get to.........trikes
