i've been playing around with my gps and pocket pc mapping software to try and get a trace and speed of the luge when running but can only get live speed data and am unable to play back the track with the top speeds etc, i have tried it with Fugawi and pocket streets, I was wondering what other people are using to log their runs?

I think any unit from the Garmin Forerunner series is probably the most popular among street lugers and downhill skateboarders. I'm currently using the Garmin Forerunner 101 and am very happy with it, as it gives me more consistently accurate data compared to my Timex GPS which transmits signals to a watch. I bought mine off Amazon, here's a link to it where you can read the reviews: www.amazon.com/Garmin-Forerunner-Wrist-Mounted-Personal-Training/dp/B0001ILXGQIt stores every run and every lap within each run, and is capable of storing up to 5000 laps in memory. Does not seem to erase when you remove the batteries. The data it stores for each lap/run are the route you traveled (shown as cookie-crumb trails), time elapsed, average speed, distance. The only problem I see with the 101 is that max speed is not stored in that particular lap/run. You can however review your max speed by going to "Last Run", where it will include the max speed. But once you reset the timer and start to time a new run, the "Last Run" data will be cleared and stored in the "Lap/Run History", where it will have all the other info I mentioned to you earlier, except it will not store the max speed. So in short, you can review your max speed immediately after your run by going to "Last Run", but once you clear the timer to time another run, that previous max speed will be cleared and replaced with the new max speed that you will attain on your new run. Hope that makes sense. I think the other UK riders here who use a Garmin Forerunner 101 would know what I'm talking about. Right?

Krikey! Thanks for that Furlong, tech wizard! Hows things for you in Malaysia at the moment? Will we be seeing you back in Europe this summer?
Hey, I'll be travelling to Oz next month with work, and I've got the option of going with a possible stop-over in KL. If I do, I'll drop you a line or something. All I need to do now is to persuade my company to fly my ride out for me (Unlikely though, all my work-gear already comes to £300 worth of excess baggage!). Hope to hook up with some of the riders down in Oz as well...
Ride hard, stay safe.

Found a great bit of software for the palm called "GPS Sentry", it logs your speed ,height top speed and more, and you can play it back later, also you get an audible warning of your speed as you reach it, you get six programmable levels so you can hear when you hit 30-40-50-60-70-??

Tom, send me an email at furlong teamhardcorepavement com (alias and dot omitted for spambot protection) with details of your intended visit. When are you expected to fly off to Ozzie? And for how long are you going to be there for work? If you do come to KL, how long could it be? But if you are around for a weekend, that would be awesome. Sure could use another rider to ride with on my home hill of Bukit Tinggi. 6.6 km with plenty of turns, chicanes, straighaways, long sweeping hairpins, with max speeds of 80-86 km/h. You are bringing your luge along, right? I hope to be going to the Almabtrieb World Championship and the Swiss World Cup this summer, so hope to see you Brits there again!
