We were thinking of riding that spot when I was riding with Chris Beard and co. at Traws. It does look nice, but it was to hard for everyone to get to.
Honestly guys, if you took safety and overall responsibility a bit more seriously (piss-pot and cycling helmets don't count) I (we) would love to be more involved with you. We would love to have more venues to put on races and freerides, but I'm sure you understand that we need to do it properly.
I have downloaded the teaser to your DVD (I am not one of these people who rants about things which I know nothing about) and some of the roads on it look great.

Another thing... With dual caridgeway like that it could make for some cool head to head Soap Box racing Joel

And another thing........ You are perfectly happy to drive all the way there, but not to Salisbury, which is a hell of a lot closer. This really is just about paying to ride isn't it? There is a lot more to it than just that, you are, of course, paying for safety and a closed road, but also you get to meet up with loads of people you wouldn't otherwise. And you get to test your abilities against those of others, I can see that you are quick from your video, why not come along and show us. As for cost at Gurston, it can be less than £50 (£40 for students). Prices are broken down by pieces of equipment, hill fee and SSSprint day membership. If you have your own board that takes about £10 off I think, Leathers, helmet and stuff another £10. Anual membership is £30 (+£5 for each extra dicaplin) I think and this takes off another £10 each event. Since I have all my own equipment and take out membership I only pay £20 each event. Over a year (about 8 races) I save £240. I also have a great time. Definatly worth it! Joel

I would highly doubt that the MoD would sanction a day/weekend of racing there as it's a road that's used very regularly by them as a means of getting to their training area (at the top of the hill/mountain). We did think of the head to head qualities of dual carriage way, but without properly securing the road (closing it) we'd never attempt lugeing down the wrong way. The value of the dual carriage way is that you are pretty much assured there are going to be no cars coming up the run and that spotters (filmers) have an easy time at the bottom. Travelling to Halfway is very much about the road trip experience and then lugeing somewhere that's "unspoilt", we'll probably go to Gursten one day just so we can try it out. But honestly, two corners is definatly not an appeal to us. It does look pretty safe though (the big grassy banks to soften any impact), Halfway has quite a few corners/bends a couple of which are tricky as they're off camber. It also has the added greatness of being able to get speeds over 70mph. We're running some pretty slow boards at the moment; we need to update our bearings with ones that can take us much faster (we want to push past the 80mph line). With a good tail wind and dry run, I think it's easily done. Our next trip (in Easter) will involve us attempting this, with the added bonus of aerial filming for our next dvd Bazil P.S. Sorry, bit long.
