Changing my spanking new 'luge from diddy Flywheels to Cherry Bombs - the Cherry Bombs are much more "dished", i.e. the bearings sit in the centre of the Flywheels but are toward the inside edge of the Cherry Bombs. I guess I need to alter the number of spacer washers - move some from inside the wheel to outside - but how many? Or could I just benefit from wider track...?
BTW how should you take off the second wheel of a pair - just clamp the axle with a pair of mole grips to stop it from turning as you undo the nut? Or is there a classier way...? And how much to tighten the nuts back up - just until there's no play in the wheels...? Will the nuts tighten up evenly on the axle?

1. You want to have as wide a track as possible, so use as many spacers as possible. As long as the nuts on both sides both have the nyloc part on the axle thread you are ok.
2. I take it you are using Z-Rollers. To remove the trucks and axle you will need 2 spanners, one for the nut on each side of the axle. With a spanner on the nut at each end, turn one, one of the nuts will allways come off before the other. With one nut off the whole axle will slide through and everything will fall appart allowing you to swap and change bits about. In the event that the nut that has remained on the axle is half off grip the axle in a cloth to prevent damage and twist the nut back on so that the nyloc part is on the thread. To reassemble slide the wheel, spacers then hanger bearing from one side back onto the axle. Slide the axle back through the hanger and roller, then slide on the bearing, spacers and wheel. Finally, using both spanners again, screw on the final nut. This may sound easy, but it isn't. Floating axle trucks are very fiddly and need patience when stripping.

Randal Luge Trucks have a nifty little thing that helps you to adjust the correct nut far more easily. At the end of each axle there is a screwdriver slot. This means that the axles can be held in place and the nut adjusted without using damaging tools. Unfortunatly it is far from perfect as the screwdriver has a tendance of slipping out of the slot and stabbing you in the hand/arm. Joel

Ta mucho! With one nut off the whole axle will slide through and everything will fall appart allowing you to swap and change bits about. Doh - sounds so obvious now...

BOS Living room floor is so much better - wasn't convinced that I really needed laminate flooring, but it's ace for taking bearings apart on!
