Hi All, I met a French skater the other day at Southsea. Anyway we got chatting about skating downhill and he told me a friend of his had recently died riding Mont Ventoux. I've put a post up because although I hadn't met him personally, I thought some of the rest of you might have - as he was active in the sport. Extremely sad news...for skaters everywhere... Riderz have a piece about him here www.riderz.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=116&Itemid=20

Whoa, that was really unlucky. The article says he was wearing full leathers, helmet and gloves and was riding at relatively low speeds towards the end of a run he'd done many times before and was not taking any risks at the time.
He suffered from a head trauma and was airlifted to hospital by helicopter.

oh. its years since i was there, but if i remember right mont ventoux is completely deforested and all soil eroded all the way to the base of the mountain, leaving large limestone boulders each side of the road. i wonder did he actually leave the road? and what helmet he was using?
