skid-marks.co.uk/Hello all. I ve been in touch with the organisers of this event and they are keen to get more entries. Theywill be trying to run one practice run and three timed runs . Initially they were just offering two runs which wouldnt have made it worthwhile but three or four is looking good. Andy has been to see the course and reckons it could go to 45 mph with some challenging sections. See his post on my carty for sale thread. I know this is short notice and it nearly clashes with Belchford but maybe I ll see some of you there. Good luck at Belchford have a great time.

Think the problem will be that teams are getting scrutineered for Belchford on that day.Would be intrested if it was to run next year on a different date. Matty

Went to this event yesterday. Andy dropped in to say hello (good to see you Andy and Michelle). Lovely hot sunny day, perfect weather. Its the first time they have run a cartie event and all in all a very creditable effort. Quite a few teething problems. No tow up hill, so drivers and friends helped to push carts back up. I used the pick up with a my Cairngorm tow rope and a heavy duty load strap to tow a couple of carts up at a time with a couple of smaller ones in the bin. Enthusiastic crowds, some, very kindly protecting the straw bails from damage with their legs and bodies. Although only a small number of carts there were a couple of carts worthy of note. Polaris , the overall winner but the most interesting was an american cart from the sixties ( or even earlier) very fast (in a straight line) with an interestin braking system. A wooden plank is pressed onto the road which serves the only purpose of shortening the plank every time its used. Driven by a very brave lad with no hope of living much longer if he carries on driving this cart.(love to see it trying to get round the switch). Its a very short course, about 300-400 yds but very steep with good speed pick up at the start. A chicane near the end at the fastest bit was challenging. A very friendly day out with beer and fun and I m sure the organisers have learned a lot and that next year it will be even better, though if everyone who goes to Belchford were to rock up at Windmill Hill theyd have their work cut out. I ll be happy to go again!
