Avon Dassett soap box derby took place on the 23rd of June. This was the sixth year the event has been staged. The first year approx£600 was raised for charity. This year it's up to £2000!Well done to all tin-shakers,sponsors and very generous raffle prize donors. Not to mention the contestants who enjoy the hill so much, that they re-enter. As usual we were very lucky with the weather, this allowed practice and racing without interuption. The guys driving the tow vehicles were great, and the slick operation at the top of the hill ensured smooth running. A local farmer supplied the straw bales, and comms were loaned by the Army(don't know if they know officially).A doctor and several nurses were also present.Fortunately their services weren't required, despite a rather spectacular crash. This was my fourth entry, won the last two(he he),and my partners first,in Pink Gin.First lady entrant.I shouldn't say it but;she put the "OAP" into soap box!She won her head inspite of a sticking brake caliper. Can't keep olduns down! Many thanks to Steve and team at The Avon for a great day, four bands, bbq and well needed beer after the racing. Check Youtube for videos. First post,so any breaches of etiquet etc, please excuse me. Cheers, Pete.
