The EAST COAST CHALLENGE is the single most important event in the World for Illegal/Underground Soap Box Racers.
This is a multi race elimination event whittling the field down to just two racers for the final round. The winner of that round IS the Fastest and Best Soap Box Racer in the East!
In 2010, the event consisted of 6 races. We had 20 racers start the first round. Those racers came from California, Wisconsin, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
The field was cut down to 16 starters for the second round, 12 for the third round, 8 for the fourth round, 4 for the fifth round and 2 for the final race.
That final race was between Fast Donnie From SCISR (Southern California Illegal Soapbox Racers) and NYAdam from NJUSBF (New Jersey Underground Soapbox Federation).
NYAdam had the lead as the two cars came into the final corner, but he spun the car trying to get it slowed down. Fast Donnie also spun trying to avoid NYAdam's car. Both cars went off the road and it then became a race to see which driver could get their car back onto the pavement.
NYAdam wasted no time getting his car back underway as
Fast Donnie struggled to get his car back into the race.
The win went to NYAdam from NJUSBF.
Future events will no doubt be bigger and longer. If YOU would like to be a participant in the 2011 ECC, please let us know so we can get you on the mailing list. We will begin to accept entries in August 2011.
So mark your calendars for the weekend of October 1 & 2, 2011 for the Third Annual EAST COAST CHALLENGE!
