Mark,
Your complaints seem to be entirely web-based :
Mark Quote : "...with little or no fast moving News and Features there is very little up-to-date info for them to feed on..."
What? So the outstanding Whiteair event that happened ONE MONTH AGO with it's extensive media coverage doesn't count as "Up-to-date info?"
This is the end of the UK racing season - There are no more races until 2005. I'm sorry there is no "Fast moving news" right now, but without any racing happening until next year - I don't think there is much to else to report about at the moment.
This is also the reason why the UKGSA "Race" and "News" buttons are inactive at the moment - because until 2005, there are no races - or news.
Sorry dude, what do you want us to do - make up the news?
Mark Quote : "...As the primary sources of info in the UK this leaves "Mr Newbie" thinking not only is the site dormant but so too is the sport!..."
READ THE OPENING PARAGRAPH ON THE FRONT PAGE! :
"The Ukgsa have had a great first season of racing! The team of enthusiasts and riders that work continually to secure new venues and sponsorship, are currently working hard to make the 05 race calendar the biggest the UK has ever seen. We plan to continue to run races at Dalby Forest and with White Air Extreme Sports Festival. We are also working hard on some new "secret" locations and hope to be able to announce a full 05 Race Calendar early in the new year.
Watch this space!
The UKgsa team wishes to thank all the riders that have come and raced with us this year. Your dedication to gravity sports is the key to it's success!"
In case you didn't understand what that means - I'll simplify it for you. There is no UK racing, or UK news until the new season begins again next year. Likewise, there is no F1 Motorsport happening until their next season begins too - but you don't hear people going around telling the world that the F1 Championships have "died", do you?!!
Hopefully, if "Mr Newbie" took the time to actually read the site content - he would swiftly understand that there is no UKGSA action happening until next season - But, in the meantime, if "Mr Newbie" wants to keep up-to-date with what is going on, he can join our mailing list, or send us an email, or post a message on our message board.... just like this!
One thing I'm sure he WONT be doing is going away from our site feeling that the UK gravity scene is dead! (Unless he's completely stupid that is. Oh, hang on - wait a minute - there was this ONE guy...)
Mark Quote :"the STREETLUGE.NET site has had no News since Aug 2001"
That is complete crap - I have posted regular news updates on to Streetluge.net, both before and after our events. I usually post a race report there within 24 hours of an event happening in the U.K. We had a video link posted within 12 hours of Whiteair finishing [/u] (Thanks Boneless!). Not even IGSA World Cup events manage that. And I'm guessing that you are still completely unaware of all the non English-speaking forums that exist around the world, Brazil, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain.... etc, etc... I post our news updates in five different languages. What more do you want? Blood? (Oh, but you still think that spilling blood would be a GOOD way to promote our sport, don’t you?).
Mark Quote :"...It does nothing to inspire confidence in the sport or the people "in charge"."
Hopefully - If "Mr Newbie" found our site earlier in the season, he might have had the opportunity to attend one of our events, meet the racers, meet the marshals, meet the organizers... ask a few questions, watch some racing, perhaps even have a go!
Now I think that everybody will agree on this point - the most overwhelming feedback that we have received as a result of ANY our events : has been the massive confidence that people gain from our organization on the hill. People have constantly told us how professional we are in our safety concerns, track marshalling, racing discipline on the track.... and so on. Now, if that doesn't inspire "Mr Newbie" with confidence, then I don't know what will.
Mark - I suggest that you meet our new friend Desmond. He rocked up at Ventnor on a buttboard he made himself, he had never entered an event before - and had never ridden a hill as gnarly as Whiteair... but he came, he saw, and he kicked ASS! (Who else can say they won third place on their first event, and shared the podium with a World Champion??)
For me, Desmond embodies the spirit of why we set up the UKGSA in the first place. He was a newbie once - but he just got out there and rode like hell! It was the UKGSA that gave him that opportunity to race.
I'd be quite happy to listen to Desmond if he had any constructive criticism that might help us to improve our organization...however - Your "constructive criticism" stems mainly from the fact that you spend more time surfing the net, than you do riding the roads. Perhaps in the future you should be a little more careful to actually READ THE CONTENT of the websites you visit, before shooting off your opinions on an international forum.
Mark - Once again, I find myself at the end of another post entirely dedicated to beating back your bold opinions concerning a subject that you appear to be deeply passionate about, but you are sorely lacking in terms of experience or understanding thereof. I'm not too sure which way to leave this, for whilst I am infuriated by your criticisms, and your obvious lack of attention to detail - I really think that you might have a lot more to offer, if only you would be a little less hasty to jump the gun with your relentless marketing ideas.
Come and ride with us next season - put in some serious time on your luge, come and find out about running events like ours. Come and find out what racing on the limit is REALLY all about. Come and talk to our sponsors, ask Luke and Mike about selling skate products, find out about the industry that supports our racing. Find out about our members, how they got involved, why they got involved, and where they see the future leading? Go to some European events, or try the USA - they are about ten years ahead of us in terms of running national events, learn about their achievements (and mistakes!)
Maybe then you might be able to consider some of your more radical ideas, in the true context of one who really has some idea of what "gravity sports" is all about.
Until then : "Ride hard, stay safe".
Tom W.
P.S. Let's do this Ally Pally thing - Perhaps we could put coverage of it in the "news" secion - there you go, that's progress already!
