Hi All,
Hopefully I'm posting in the right place, if not please feel free to move the thread.
My company is looking to put together, or piggy back onto, a Soapbox Racing event for charity. We have a large client base and want to lay down a challenge for all our customers to build their own entry and to race against us to raise money for our nominated charity next year.
The problem is we have no experience of this type of event at all! Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated, and if there is an event we could potentially sponsor, and brand as our own (for a fee of course) this would be of great interest.
look forward to hearing from you all with any help no matter how small.
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben - There are quite a few events across the country and I'm sure we'll be able to put you in touch with one. Did you have any particular area in mind?

That'd be excellent thank you.
We're based in Norfolk (not many hills here!) but we're a national company, so anywhere in the south of England ideally......

Thank you, appreciate the guidance.
I've sent Penn House an email to see if they'd be interested.
Are there any specific insurance/staffing/safety issues we'd need to be aware of?

If you're looking for a tie in/sponsorship kind of deal with an existing race then that should already be taken care of by the event organisers. Competitors are not normally insured and take part at their own risk, although they can take out their own insurance if they wish. The organisers will normally have third party liability cover and employers liability cover, and they would normally be responsible for preparing risk assessments and safety plans, staff briefings, safe operation, etc. If you are looking to organise one yourselves, then you'll need to arrange that too. The main requirements would normally be; * Risk assessment and safety plan * Third party liability and employers liability insurance cover * First aid cover (for competitors and spectators) * Public event license * Road closure, if necesssary The local council will normally have a public events group who will be able to give you advice on any specific requirements they might have, and may already have an event preparation guide already available - e.g. archive.angus.gov.uk/emergencyplanning/safeevent.htm

Fantastic assistance thank you.
I think the option to sponsor an existing event makes most sense, especially with the lack of any form of gradient in Norfolk.....
Appreciate your help, and i'm sure i'll be back soon.

Thought I'd update this quickly - we're working closely with the guys at Penn House and it looks likely we'll be putting together a joint event.
Hope to see you all there!
