Hello there !
My name is Calixto Garcia. I'm member of the Spanish Gravity Sports Federation ( FDI ) www.fedei.com and webmaster of Gravity Sports websitewww.zonagravedad.com
There you can find a lot of information ( in spanish, but Google translator is always a help )
I'm glad to find new soapbox forums. Ours is in very good health, with almost 30.000 messages. The specific soapbox technical forum is: www.zonagravedad.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=8&sid=b4ee0483ab3d2eec5b58fda6d7c47c31
You have soapbox building articles here: www.zonagravedad.com/modules.php?name=News&file=categories&op=newindex&catid=30 and setup articles here: www.zonagravedad.com/modules.php?name=News&file=categories&op=newindex&catid=39
We have around 400 riders and almost 100 races every year ( most of them in northern Spain, so you can come by ferry ), with 4 regional championships, a 5 round Spanish Cup and a Spanish Championship ( forum: www.zonagravedad.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=35&sid=b4ee0483ab3d2eec5b58fda6d7c47c31 ).
Two years ago we integrated into FISD ( European Soapbox Federation ) and we homologated the C4 class in Spain. We have already 12 C4 soapboxes racing and we have already gone to France to race the European Championships ind it has been a great experience: www.zonagravedad.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=700
I guess you should try to build soapboxes with more resistant wheels ( car rims with motorbike tires or magnesium rims with Mitas 16x4 tires ) to resist heavy lateral loads. In Spain, our races usualy have around 8-12% slope and lateral accelerations over 1.1G.
I also encourage you to try to develope the FISD C4 class and go to continental Europe to race. The competitive level is incredible and the ambient is great. And, who knows, you could held a European Championship sometime...
Nice to meet you all !
Calixto Garcia
