Hello all, The Devils Rejects are building a new soapbox racer, and to get some cash are selling ‘Delilah’, our trusty old cart. Been around for two years now and been fettled to a decent and competitive degree.
Came second in The Cairngorm Extreme this year, beating some great machines and Handles very well, tracks very true and feels confident at above 60mph (as shown by onboard speedo).
The cart’s raced at Belchford twice, but was let down Last year by the axles which were too wide for the chicanes – these have now been narrowed by over 8 inches to improve tight handling. This year we were scuppered by the weather, the super high pressure, super skinny slick tyres (120psi) are as fast as you can get but have no grip in the wet, and as we’re always skint we didn’t have an alternative set so we skidded way too easily.
Raced at Cadwell last year and we will be racing there this year if anyone wants to have a chat about anything. After that it’s got to be sold so its either a good offer from someone or the dreaded fleabay…..
Parts
DMR 20mm 36 spoke hubs - £50 each and virtually bomb proof.
Shwable Stelvio 1 1/8th 20” tyres ertro 451 not 406 so imperial 20” £17 each.
Alex DA22 rims decent very light aluminium double wall rims £20 each.
Avid 5 cable disc brakes (rear wheels) £50 each – Preferred by many mountain bikers as very simple to set up and don’t rub as much as hydraulics.
Modified ‘tony kart’ stubb axles with internal bearings
Adjustable Camber angles and toe in/out with rose joints and track rods.
Ford Fiesta cut down steering box (rack pinion).
5 point harness.
Computer Speedo – shows max speed, current speed, distance etc.
1” box section chassis. Very strong and has 6” protection zone in front of feet.
La cucaracha air horns (though you’ll need your own 12v battery).
Bodywork is a modified sombrero roof box and can be removed easily to give access to internals.
Add all the parts up and it cost lots……
Fully complies with Belchford and Cairngorm rules (2010).
Approx 65kg according to the weigh in at the Cairngorm extreme.
More pictures of construction, racing and a look at our outdated website
